Go paperless.

Solution brief

  • Easily track and share driving data.

New government regulations call for drivers’ paper log books to be replaced by electronic logging devices (ELDs) in mid-December. Are you ready?

  • Driver safety and safe working environments are a top priority in the commercial driving and transportation industry. That’s why the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations put a limit on how many hours your drivers can be on duty and still drive. Those rules also limit the total number of hours they can spend driving. These regulations are intended to help reduce driver fatigue and give drivers a break before returning to work.

The latest FMCSA regulations require that ELDs replace your drivers’ paper-based log books by December 18, 2017. In addition, these regulations also mean non-compliant, automatic onboard recording devices (AOBRDs) have to be phased out and replaced with ELDs by December 16, 2019.

Now’s the time to get your fleet ready. ELDs can help you create a safer work environment for your drivers, in addition to making their hours-of-service (HOS) reporting easier. Using a smartphone or other mobile device, you can quickly and easily track, manage and share drivers’ duty records. ELDs help give you a clearer picture of how your drivers perform, so you can find ways to improve productivity, reduce operational costs and increase safety. Now you’ll get a more accurate picture of who’s driving and for how long, which will help you schedule drivers more efficiently.

  • How it works

You can use a smartphone or other mobile device for an ELD as long as it meets FMCSA’s technical specs, is certified secure and is listed on the FMCSA web site.

Once deployed, ELDs sync up with your vehicle’s engine to automatically record data that gives you an accurate picture of hours of service. The data includes:

    • Driving time
    • Engine hours
    • Vehicle movement
    • Miles driven
    • Location information
